Maureen Sanders

Specialist Dietitian

Maureen is  a Dietitian registered with The Health and Care Professions Council and a member of The British Dietetic Association. She attained  her  first degree in Social Biology at Surrey University and went on to study a Master’s degree in Nutrition and a Diploma in Dietetics with State Registration at King’s College London.

 

She has  worked for over 25 years in the NHS and her  interest and expertise in Eating Disorders has developed in the last 25 years. Setting up a Dietetic service to GP’s in the Central London area and seeing patients with Eating Disorders, she went on to specialise in this area ,treating both young people and Adults with a range of Eating Disorders as well as Obesity. She has  worked in Specialist Adult and Adolescent Eating Disorders services in London, Surrey and Hampshire in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Alongside her NHS work ,she  built up a private practice over the last 15 years in the treatment of Eating Disorders.

.

Her interest and training in Sports Nutrition has meant that she has also advised a number of athletes (ranging from the keen sportsperson to the elite variety!) In her work in the field of Eating Disorders and Obesity she has been able to draw from this expertise.

 

Treatment Approach

She works  with adults, young people and their families, in the treatment and prevention of the following conditions-

 

  • Anorexia nervosa

  • Bulimia nervosa

  • Binge Eating Disorder

  • Eating Disorders Otherwise Not Specified (EDNOS)

  • Atypical Eating Disorders

  • Obesity and weight management

 

With training in Counselling Skills, Systemic Practice, and Family Based Treatment (for Eating Disorders),she has  a psychological approach to treating patients. Whilst working singlehandedly, she has worked in numerous multidisciplinary teams and is  able to refer to a wide variety of experienced Therapists and Medical Personnel, as appropriate.

 

What to expect

Referrals need to be supported by a Medical Doctor.

 

Initial sessions are between 1-1 ½ hours and follow up sessions between 30 minutes to 1 hour. These can be face to face, via Telephone  or Video consultations. In exceptional  circumstances, home visits can be arranged. Fees vary accordingly
